Cookie policy

Three cookies at most, and two of them appear only if you accept analytics. Here is each one, what it does, and how to change your mind.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on your next visit. Some cookies exist so a site can remember a setting. Others exist so a site can count visitors. This site uses one of each kind, and only the first is set before you have chosen.

The cookies this site can set

NamePurposeProviderDuration
ls_consent Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, and the date you chose. Set as soon as you answer the banner, either way, because there is no other way to remember the answer. LongiSoft, this site 6 months
_ga Tells one visitor from another, so that a second visit is not counted as a new person. Set only after you accept analytics. Google Analytics 4 13 months
_ga_<id> Holds the state of your current analytics session for this site's Google Analytics property. The <id> is the property's own identifier. Set only after you accept analytics. Google Analytics 4 13 months

ls_consent is a first-party cookie: it is set by longisoft.com, it is never sent to anyone else, and it carries nothing but the word granted or denied and a timestamp. It is restricted to this site with SameSite=Lax and it is only sent over HTTPS.

What is not here

There are no advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no social media trackers, and no embedded videos or maps that would set cookies of their own. The site runs no advertising tags at all, so advertising storage stays denied whatever you choose in the banner. If you reject analytics, or simply ignore the banner, nothing is requested from Google and the two Google Analytics cookies are never created.

How your choice is applied

Before anything else runs, the page tells Google's consent mode that analytics, advertising, advertising user data, and advertising personalisation are all denied. Google Tag Manager is loaded only once you have accepted analytics. If you later reject, we clear the Google Analytics cookies from your browser and reload the page, because a loaded Tag Manager cannot be unloaded any other way; from then on nothing is sent.

Change your choice

You can change your mind at any time, in either direction, with no penalty. Use the Cookie settings link, which is in the footer of every page and also right here, to reopen the banner and accept or reject. You can also delete the cookies through your browser settings, in which case the banner appears again on your next visit.

If you block cookies entirely

The site works normally. Nothing here depends on a cookie except remembering your answer, so the banner will simply ask again each time.

Where to read more

Our privacy policy covers everything else the site collects, including the server logs it keeps whether or not you accept analytics. Google's own handling of analytics data is described in the Google privacy policy.
